Do you want to know what offends your gut? Ever wonder if that gas, bloat, constipation, or other string of symptoms are related to a sensitivity to a food? You’re not alone. These can indicate delayed hypersensitivities to food. Food sensitivities can be tricky to identify, say with a diet diary or food journal, because onset of symptoms can arise between 2 hours up to 2 days after consumption. With a simple at-home food sensitivity blood test, we can determine which foods stir up trouble in your digestive tract and may be contributing to systemic conditions.
Cilia (hair-like projections), which line the intestines, absorb nutrients from the food we consume. When the lining of the intestines is disrupted, through damaged tight junctions (gateways in between cells of the gut lumen) from food, infections, or inflammation, essentially these cilia lie down and cannot perform their job of taking in needed nutrients for optimal organ function. Additionally, larger molecules can then slip through, entering the GALT (gut-associated lymphoid tissue) and into the bloodstream, a place where we don’t want these antigens (proteins).
What’s the result of these larger molecules floating around in the bloodstream? Numerous symptoms and conditions have been attributed to the above cascade of events, like headaches, cramps, diarrhea, GI discomfort, skin reactions, brain fog, hormonal imbalances, and more. Even when consuming a healthy meal, if one is sensitive to egg yolks, for example, all other foods in that meal will have compromised absorption due to the compromised integrity of the gut barrier. Removing offenders is a great step in helping reduce (local and systemic) inflammation in your body and improve the terrain (or soil) of your gut.
It is estimated that 50% of adults in the US have a food sensitivity to at least one food.
What to expect with your food sensitivity test:
- Choose from testing 3, 22, or 132 foods, chemicals, preservatives (132 includes Zonulin test)
- Get your finger pricked (at Enroot Wellness or a kit can be mailed to you)
- Sample of blood is collected and sent to the lab
- Results to follow in 5-7 business days
The good news is that a food sensitivity does not mean your body will always display a reaction to that food. What is typically recommended is removal of offending foods for 3-6 weeks and reintroduction of one food at a time to assess reactions/symptoms.
Food Sensitivity Blood Test
Our bodies are not static. The digestive tract and microbiome (or “soil” of the gut) is ever-evolving, responding to foods, chemicals, hormones, drugs, and other changes, and may be periodically intolerant to some foods. Enroot wellness wants you to tend your soil.
Tests IgG levels to both food antigens (proteins) and Complement, which is a collection of proteins released by the immune system during a reaction with that food. Recommended annually.
Choose from the following food sensitivity tests for more info and next steps.
Determine food sensitivities to:
- 3 foods (milk, egg, wheat) with Fast Test, results in minutes
- 22 foods
- 132 foods + preservatives + Zonulin
These include a 30-minute consult to discuss findings, next steps, and questions.

How is this test different from other IgG or food sensitivity tests?
- The FIT test developed by Dr. Dorval is a dual-pathway test measuring IgG/food immune complex, plus associated split-complement protein C3d
- The mechanism behind IgG/food immune complex-driven inflammation is centered around the activation of Complement (C3d, a series of proteins that induce the inflammatory response)
- Testing for Complement increases the reliability of IgG test results, and reduces the chances of false positives and negatives
- This dual-pathway test detects IgG + complement, which indicates food exposure AND food that causes inflammation
